Eric Fayolle

For the last few years a considerable amount of research has been done on the digital printing of art works. Printing techniques, printers, inks and papers are tested by laboratories and artists in order to guarantee the highest possible quality, which is near lithographic, for prints of art works, with excellent colour stability and greater longevity. In accordance with the results published by Wilhem Research, Eric Fayolle's photographs are printed on Fine Art and baryta paper using a printer equipped with Micro Piezo heads and resin encapsulated mineral pigment inks.
Eric Fayolle and Label Image
Photography is a two stage process, image capture and printing, which are both creative expressions in their own right. For me, the printing process is an essential stage, which enables the full expression of all that was important when the photo was taken. Both the photographer's own vision and his artistic intention persist and are confirmed when the photograph is printed. I therefore find it difficult to hand over responsibility for the printing stage, feeling that I have not finished the task and have left the image incomplete. In order to produce digital prints however, I have been had to refer to a superior level of skill and leave the comfort of my own printing lab.
When I opened the metal door of the Label Image workshop, my initial sensation was one of smell. The fumes of acetic acid, fixer and developing fluids immediately took me back to the time spent in my dark room. Meeting Guillaume, the printer, further comforted this impression of familiarity. An excellent technician, he also has the required artistic sensitivity to interpret all the nuances in an image, to balance the contrasts, the quality of the blacks, their depth and their transparency. So my partnership with Label Image is a true extension of my printing experience. They share my aim for the highest quality and the same level of expertise in the fine-tuning of digital prints as I had in my own analog printing. And, more than ever, I am convinced that the art of photography continues through to the final printing of the image.
L'Atelier Label Image is a small independant photographic laboratory that produces both analog and digital prints, specialised in traditional black and white printing and Fine Art printing.
